Two of Abuja greats PsychoYP and Azanti recently dropped their groundbreaking joint EP YP and Azanti, Vol.1. This EP has been doing great numbers on various streaming platforms, thanks to their incredible talent and hard work.
PsychoYP and Azanti are two of Abuja’s favorite artistes but the fact remains, not much is known about them. Today we tell you everything you need to know about them.
Starting off with their names, PsychoYP’s real names are Nicholas Ihua-Maduenyi while Azanti is Nathan Ayomikun Otekalu-Aje.
YP hails from Rivers State while Azanti is from Ondo State. However, they are both based in Abuja, Nigeria.
PsychoYP is 22yrs old and has been making music since 2013. Azanti is 17yrs old and started producing at the age of 8. At 14 he started recording music and discovered his musical ability.
Regarding genre of music, PsychoYP makes Trap/Hip-Hop while Azanti makes R&B Afrofusion.
Before their joint EP, PsychoYP had dropped two mix tapes. His sophomore mixtape, YPSZN2 debuted at Number 1 on Apple Music Top Charts and earned him a nomination for the “Rest of Africa Award” at the 26th South African Music Awards 2020.
The mix tape is critically acclaimed as the Best Hip-Hop body of work out of Nigeria in recent times.
Little wonder YP’s music has garnered over 10million streams independently across digital streaming platforms. YP currently has over 20 songs (singles and features) on radios across the nation.
Did you know YP was the most featured artist from Nigeria in 2020 with over 35 songs released?
The songs include heavy collaborations with Kida Kudz, Ling Hussle, King Perryy, Alpha P, Vector Da Viper, Wavy The Creator and a host of others. He was recently recognized by Jidenna as one of the artists he listens to frequently and would love to work with.
YP, as he is fondly called, was featured in Complex UK as one of the Top 10 Nigerian artists to watch out for in 2020.
PsychoYP’s music videos have peaked at Number 1 on the Apple Music World Top Charts, premiered on MTV Base and Trace TV, while charting Top 10 on MTV Base Hip-Hop World Chart and Top 5 on Channel O Hip-Hop chart South-Africa.

Azanti on the other hand is a singer, songwriter and producer based in Abuja, Nigeria. His ability to produce, write, sing and play instruments has grabbed the attention of industry heavyweights – earning him a spot in the vibrant music scene across the continent.
Now let’s tell you the story behind their names. PsychoYP’s name stems from childhood nicknames “Psycho” and “Papi chulo” which eventually became “Yung Papi”, = YP.
Azanti is a play on the Swahili word “Asante” meaning “thank you” which Azanti coined with a childhood friend from Burundi.

PsychoYP once entered for Hennessy Artistry in 2016 while Azanti took part in drama and theatre in school.
Both PsychoYP and Azanti are managed by Abuja based media firm EdgeMAX.
They are also members of the creative collective Apex Village which houses other fast rising talent from the FCT such as Zilla Oaks, Ayüü, Marv OTM and Kuddi Is Dead.
