KAMBILI MOVIE REVIEW:
Watching this movie was quite a delight. The production and the performances of the actors will pull you in from start to finish.
“Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards”, is the story of Kambili Maduka [Nancy Isime], an irresponsible, unorganized spendthrift 28-year-old woman who after her 29th birthday became very obsessed about getting married before she turns 30. Prior to her 29th birthday, she got suspended from work due to her incessant lateness. She goes on a date with her boyfriend [Mawuli Gavor] and he breaks up with her as he thinks she is not ‘wife material’ due to her lifestyle, dashing her hopes of getting married before 30. She decides that what she needs to do is prove to her boyfriend that she can be everything he wants her to be which is- responsible, driven, focused and wife material, with the help of her best friends [Swanky JKA, Venita Akpofure].
The performances of the actors is probably the best part of the movie. If you love Nancy Isime, you will love her more in this movie. She embodies the role of Kambili well. Her performance is seamless!
Jidekene Achufusi [Swanky JKA] who stole our hearts in living in bondage did an amazing job as Kambili’s ‘bestie’. The general chemistry between Kambili and her best friends is very seamless and made it easy to love them. After all, how do you know a good actor? When it doesn’t feel like they are acting!
Sharon Ooja did a great job as the ‘annoying girlfriend’ of Kambili’s bestfriend. Mawuli Gavor is forever easy to love. Very smooth! Even though we didn’t expect the pairing of Uzor Arukwe and Elvina Ibru, they still did an amazing job! And we dare not forget Toyin Abraham, she cracked us up every time her face popped up on the screen.
From the directing, to the cinematography and the set design, it is all quite beautiful to watch. Major kudos to Kayode Kasum! The beautiful scenes is worth lauding.
Heads up though, there was a part we thought they were going to pull a ‘Bollywood scene’ on us but it ended in praise! That is one part of this film that could definitely have been done better. The way it plays out seems very awkward.
Kambili is poised as a romantic comedy and that aspect was well delivered.
“Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards” starts showing in Nigerian Cinemas today, December 4th and is a recommended watch.
