I would have loved to start with the resident “gbege” about the owner of this restaurant, that is presently rocking the Abuja social media space, but I’m a foodie, not an amebo LOL, which means that I will give you my undiluted review of Urban Air, “gbege” or not. Stay with me plis.
Soooo, let’s start with the positives.
THE SPACE IS BEAUTIFUL
Yo fam! It is great when people can think of things that have not been done in their environs before and just create something new. Urban Air brought us unusual vibes in a positive way. I really liked the space and the ambience. I do wish there were a bit more effect, but I guess they worked with what they had, which is still great. You should go there just to see what it looks like.
IT IS NEW
You should visit Urban Air because it is fresh. You know Nigeria naa, new things are always the best. It is better to catch them fresh than to go there after one year because like you, I am not sure the place will look the same then.
Also, who likes to carry last? In this our city when places become cliché in one week, you really want to go there ASAP.
Okay. I have given you 2 reasons why you should visit, now I move to the reasons why you should not. No, I am not going to talk about the “clears throat” issue going on with the owner of the place. That has nothing to do with my restaurant review.
THE FOOD ISN’T GREAT
Errr, we ordered one of the inflight specials, but we didn’t order anything else, because we were very unimpressed. Let me gist you about this food.
You know all this kind of thing where you have to rub the rice on your tongue very well, just so you can provoke your taste buds to taste something…long story short, the rice was not nice. It was so dry, you could choke on it, same as the chicken. We were 4, and nobody liked the food.
To be honest, before I went there, there had been speculations by some food bloggers including myself, that the food would not be great because of the sister restaurant (Urban Loft), whose food isn’t great either. But we juss said we should try it out. I should visit Urban Loft again to see if they are better before I give you the full gist, after all, we serve a God of second chances and I am His child. “Smiles a holy smile”.
THE WAITERS AREN’T GREAT
If you’re going to give us airplane vibes, please just do it all. Go all out. What is worth doing is worth doing well.
Urban Air waiters are nice, but they look so out of place. They don’t vibe the vibe of the place, if you get what I mean. I don’t want to go into too much details, but we all know how Air Hosts and Hostesses look. I would have loved if the waiters and waitresses looked a bit like that.
Also, the waitress that served us couldn’t tell whether a sauce she served was spicy or not. See, we’re not here to joke, (except when we want to joke, lol) we want restaurants to step up their game and give us value. How can you tell me you don’t know if the thing is sweet or spicy? She even said it’s because she had never tasted it. NO NO for me.
Finally, as you will see in the menu below, it is not exactly the most affordable restaurant. Their Bolognese is 3,700, which is like 1,200 above the standard. I failed to mention that the menu is boring, but I will blame that on the fact that they just started operations.
If you decide to visit, Urban Air is located on the 2nd Floor of Obum Plaza, 16 Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.
